Barbara Lynn Schott Mostofi
Barbara Lynn Schott MostofiBarbara Lynn Schott Mostofi, 69, died on Nov. 4, 2018 at the Queens Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii after a period of failing health. She was born on July 21, 1949 in Tehran, Iran, the daughter of an American diplomat, Robert Schott, and his wife Dianna. She developed a lifelong passion for education as a teacher in the New Mexico and Hawaii public and private school systems. As a young adult, she traveled the world living and teaching abroad in various countries such as Italy, Greece, India, Iran, Israel, Afghanistan, Russia, Japan, Latin America and the United Arab Emirates. One of her favorite countries was Costa Rica where she taught at the international Costa Rica American Academy and Lincoln School for three years. After her travels abroad, she settled in Hawaii where she has lived the last twenty years as a devoted teacher and substitute. She was known to be very caring, high energy and truly loved by her students. She taught for years at the Saint Patrick's Elementary School 3rd & 4th grades and worked for the Hawaii DOE and various school summer programs such as Iolani and Punahou. In addition to education, she had a passion for creating, collecting and studying art. Specifically, she enjoyed painting watercolors. Her extensive travels sparked an interest for anthropology, in which she received a Bachelor's Degree from the University of the Pacific and a Master's Degree in Education from Framingham State University. Always the explorer, she loved spending time in Las Vegas, Santa Fe, California and New York, as well as her local favorites of Oahu North Shore, Kauai and Maui. She was called home to God surrounded with love by her significant other Alec Briguglio, her son Jahan Mostofi, daughter Nadia Mostofi and grandson Kai, her trusted care giver Bobbie French and several friends. She is survived by her sister Alex Schott, brothers Conrad and Robert Schott and several cousins. A memorial service will be held at Punahou's "Thurston Memorial Chapel", 1601 Punahou St., Honolulu, HI on Jan.12 at 2 pm.
