Curt Fukumoto, 54, of Waipahu, Hawaii, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2018, at University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, due to complications from a stem cell transplant after being diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year. He was born in Hilo, Hawaii, on December 20, 1963 to Lawrence and Shizuko Fukumoto. He attended Kailua High School and continued his education at the University of Hawaii at Manoa where he majored in education and earned a Masters Degree in Library Science. Curt had a long, fulfilling career with the Hawaii State Library Public System where he worked at a number of different libraries-Waianae, Waipahu, Lihue, Hawaii Kai, Hawaii State Library, Salt Lake, and most recently, at the Kaneohe Public Library, where he was known to many as beloved Children's Librarian, Uncle Curt. Curt had the honor of being awarded "Librarian of the Year" several times during his library career. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and cheering on his favorite football team, the University of Hawaii Warriors. He loved music and playing the guitar. He is survived by his wife Shannon, son Jude and daughter Marina, of Waipahu; mother, Shizuko Fukumoto of Kailua; brother Duane Fukumoto of Kailua; niece Alia Fukumoto of Honolulu; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Curt was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Fukumoto. Arrangements are with the Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary in Kaneohe, on Wednesday, December 5, 2018. Visitation will be held at 5:00pm, service at 6:00pm. Interment will be at Valley of the Temples at a later date. The family requests no flowers.
