WILLIAM KO’OMEALANI AMONA
WILLIAM KO'OMEALANI AMONAMay 24, 1922October 12, 2018. Born to Ernest Ahina Amona and Mokihana Daniels, William was raised in Kalihi with his sister Helen and brother Ernest Jr. He now joins his wife Lydia of 70 years who preceded him 6 years ago. Their children are Mokihana Kayatani (deceased), Nalani, Byron, Kawena (Terry) Gomes, Scott and Koa. They have 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Bill attended Likelike Elementary, Kalakaua Intermediate and Kamehameha Schools, graduating in 1941. He was an accomplished student leader, school newspaper editor and athlete and earned a scholarship to attend UH Manoa. After working as a machinist during WWII, he graduated from UH Manoa and earned a law degree from the U. of Michigan. He served Hawai'i as an 'Ewa district court judge, Honolulu City Councilman and an attorney in private practice. Bill and Lydia were also long-time active UH athletic booster club members. After retiring, they worked in the DOE's Kupuna program. He was also an advocate and active member of the Hawaiian sovereignty movement. Memorial: Saturday, December 8 at Bishop Memorial Chapel at the Kamehameha Schools- Kapalama campus. Visitation at 2pm, services at 3pm with a reception to follow.
