Mildred Tsuyako (Sakai) Wong
104, of Kaneohe passed away on December 4, 2018. She was born in Heeia, Oahu on April 20, 1914. She was the third of seven children born to Mashizo Sakai and Tsuchi (Nagata) Sakai from Yamaguchi, Japan. Her siblings were Thelma, Thomas, Jane, Dora, Edward, and Clara "Betty." Her family operated Sakai Store in Heeia. She earned an 8th grade diploma from Benjamin Parker School in 1928 and obtained a vocational diploma in dressmaking from Honolulu Vocational School in 1930. She married Francis F. Wong of Heeia in 1934, and they had three sons: Francis M. P., Timmy P., and Larry I. Wong. She worked as a housekeeper for Judge Philip Cass in Heeia and retired as a dietary aide from the Hawaii State Hospital. She was a charter member of the Koolau Senior Hui. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and was an avid sports fan for various University of Hawaii sports teams. She is survived by her sons: Timmy (Wanda) of Pahrump, NV and Larry Wong; daughter-in-law: Barbara Wong; sister: Dora Yoshino; sister-in-law: Colene Wong; 11 grandchildren; 25 great- grandchildren; 10 great-great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to convey their appreciation to the staff and families of Ann Pearl Rehabilitation and Healthcare for providing our loved one with the best care over the past 2 1/2 years.
