JANET TOWELL
93, of Honolulu, passed away on Nov. 23rd, 2018 at her home, after a long battle with heart and lung illnesses. If you didn't have an opportunity to know this colorful, humorous lady, you missed-out! Known for her quick wit, generosity, charity support, golf, tennis & bridge enthusiasm. Proud mother of Kim (Scott) Church; grandmother of Blake (Annalisa) Church; Great-Grandmother of Harper & Bode Church. Born in Battle Creek, Michigan to Doris Pence & Carol Keith, Nov. 3rd, 1925. Left Michigan as a high school senior when her family moved to Florida, where she met and married Lt. R.H. "Turk" Towell USAF, in 1945. She thoroughly enjoyed her role as an Air Force wife for the next 32 years. She was a great asset to her husband's career. While being transferred every 3 yrs Jan worked outside the home for a radiologist, a pediatrician, and her most challenging & rewarding Civil Service positions at the Pentagon, including the Naval Department Anti-Warfare Program; the Air Defense Panel, USAF; and being awarded a Superior Performance Award. She was very involved in amateur theatre while living in Lima, Peru, acting in several productions. Her performing prowess led her to Jack Cione's Mardi Gras productions at the Pearl Harbor Officer's Club for several years running. Active in Air Force Wive's Clubs at every duty station, and the ladies golf clubs at Hickam and Navy Marine golf courses. Honored to have been the Rules Chairman for the Hawaii State Women's Golf Assn. Preceded in death by her husband, Col. R.H. "Turk" Towell; her parents Doris and Louis Crowell; her sister Norma Jean Speary; and grand-daughter Stacy Jancyn Church. She will be missed by all who loved her. Inurnment is Jan. 9, 2018, 11:30 at Punchbowl. Mahalo to Tripler Family Practice, Pulmonary Clinic & Cardiology Clinic for Mom's exemplary care.
