ROY HIROSHI TANJI
88, passed away on Nov 12, 2018 at Wahiawa General Hospital Long Term Center. Roy graduated from Leilehua High School and the University of Southern California School of Architecture. Roy won many school project awards and AIA sponsored competitions. He designed many residences, churches, shopping centers, and State and City and County of Honolulu buildings. Roy was appointed to the Building Committee of the United Methodist Church and the Board of licensing of Architecture and Engineers. Mayor Eileen Anderson appointed Roy as the Building Superintendent for the City and County of Honolulu. He later worked as a Building inspector for the schools and all state buildings until he retired. Roy had 45 years of perfect attendance with the Wahiawa- Waialua Rotary club, Ala Moana Rotary club and Waikiki Rotary club. He was President and chairman of many Rotary projects. He loved designing buildings, surfing, diving for octopus, attending Wahiawa-Waialua, Ala Moana and Waikiki Rotary clubs, traveling to Japan with Tohuku Travel Services, watching University of Southern California Trojan Football games, going every Sunday with family to picnics to the beach and driving his 1960 Austin Healy. Roy is survived by wife Sally, son Wesley and his wife Sanae and daughter Laura. Private service was held.
