Eunice Iku Masumura-Sakata
Eunice Iku Masumura-SakataBorn in Makawao, Maui on Feb. 22, 1915, Eunice Iku (Toyama) Masumura-Sakata went with a smile to be with the Lord on December 11, 2018 at 103-years-old. Eunice was a woman ahead of her time. At a time when many children left school after the 8th grade, Eunice graduated from Maui High School and attended the University of Hawaii for two years. She learned to drive a car at 14-years-old, held leadership roles at Waialae Baptist Church (where she was a charter member), the UH Cooperative Extension Club, and the PTA. At one time, she worked at 3 different jobs to add income to a household of eight people that included her father-in-law and mother-in-law. Eunice eventually retired from Sears and continued to volunteer in her church and community. She also continued to make hundreds of yarn leis to give to others until she died. She was married to Morris Toshio Masumura in 1937; and had four children: Wilfred (Dayle) Masumura, Muriel Masumura, Helene (Ray) Sokugawa, and Gary Masumura. After Morris' death, she married Richard Toshitaka Sakata, whose daughter is Judy (David) Mikami. Eunice had 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Her siblings included 2 sisters and 4 brothers. Services will be held at Hosoi Mortuary on Sunday, January 20, 2019. Visitation: 1pm. Service: 2pm. No flowers. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary
