Frederick Bennett Giles, M.D.
Frederick Bennett Giles, M.D.May 9, 1939 - December 29, 2018 Rick was born on Kauai and passed away in Honolulu after a lengthy illness. He was the son of Frederick and Jane Giles. Rick is survived by his wife of 18 years, Debra Oberheim Giles and his four children from a previous marriage: Steff (Tucker) Hall, Maile, Kellie (Mike) Dale, Major Frederick Beauford Giles and his grandchildren: Lola, Elliot, Charles, Malia, Kylie and Brandon and one great granddaughter Autumn. He is also survived by his brothers Thomas (Leslie) Giles and Kent (Barbara) Giles as well as nephews and nieces. Rick was educated at Punahou School, Dartmouth College, the University of Indiana School of Medicine and trained in neurology, radiology and neuroradiology. Dr. Giles was board certified and was one of the first neuroradiologists in Hawaii. He provided many years of service in the imaging department of The Queen's Medical Center. Rick was known for his intellect, profound humility and kindness. He was extremely patient with students and young physicians. He maintained a superb sense of humor at home and at work. Dr. Giles was a veteran and served as the Medical Officer for the submarine USS Tecumsah in 1967. Last respects will be at Borthwick Mortuary, 1330 Maunakea Street, Honolulu, on January 16, 2019. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with services and eulogy at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire. An early lunch will be served and Rick's ashes will be taken to Punchbowl at 12:30 p.m. where he will be interred with his parents.
