Hilarion A Bumanglag Sr.
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Hilarion A Bumanglag Sr., 97, passed peacefully at St. Francis Hospice on January 15, 2019 and is now eternally united with his beloved wife, Nena. He was born on October 23, 1921 to Casimiro and Gavina Bumanglag (both deceased) of Ilocos Norte, Philippines - their third son. On contract with the Waipahu Sugar Company, the family boarded the SS President Taft, arriving in Honolulu on August 17, 1923 to begin their plantation life. Hilarion graduated from Leilehua High School c/o 1940 and, at 20 years young, he survived the attack on Pearl Harbor shielded only by a kiawe tree! He was a US Army Veteran, grade Tec 5, stationed in Maunawili, and a retired Planner & Estimator from Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. His hobbies were tinkering with tv's and electronics, automotive repairs, golf, cigars, and ballroom dancing. He is predeceased by his brothers Jose and Benjamin Bumanglag. He is survived by his brother David (Elena) Bumanglag, and children, Estrellita Nelson, Carmella Saldavia, Sharon Murphy, Rochelle Dietz, Angel (Damian) DePasquale, Hilarion Bumanglag Jr, Tracey (Sean) Bumanglag-Taoka; step-children Patricia (Robert) Texeira, Gregory (Wendy) Dikilato, Jr, Marilyn (Jose) Abejon, Stephanie Silva; and his grand through great-great grandchildren. Services will be held on Feb 21, 2019 at St. John Vianney Church, Kailua. Visitation: 9:00 a.m.; Eulogy: 10:00 a.m.; Mass: 10:30 a.m. Lunch reception to follow. Interment: 1:00 p.m. at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery, Kaneohe. ~ Aloha attire requested ~
