On Monday February 4, 2019, Hilary Brown, loving wife and mother of three, passed away at age 78. Hilary was born October 20, 1940 in Alameda California to Allan and Caroline (Ward) Ledford. In 1956 the Ledfords moved to Hana Maui and then later to Honolulu where she graduated from Punahou School in 1958. After attending Colorado Women's College, she returned to Oahu to work in retail while starting a family. Hilary was like a surrogate mom to the Kahala neighborhood kids growing up during the 70's. Everyone loved and cherished her like she was their own. After raising her three boys on Oahu Hilary moved to Maui and married the love of her life Zadoc Brown Jr on January 5, 1998. The last 28 years were the happiest of her life. Hilary and Zadoc traveled all over the globe on amazing adventures. She enjoyed spending time with dear friends and family and was a doting Tutu to her 7 grandchildren who she loved and adored. She was passionate about animals; raising generations of dogs, pheasant, rabbits, love birds, and a giant tortoise to name a few. Hardly a day went by that she wasn't rescuing a Jackson chameleon off the road on her daily walk. Hilary was a lifelong paddler and surfer as well. She was lucky enough to have been coached in swimming and paddling by Duke Kahanamoku. Later, she paddled with Outrigger Canoe Club, and completed multiple Molokai crossings. When she came to Maui, she joined up with Hawaiian Canoe Club, and enjoyed her time and success with them immensely. Hilary was preceded in death by her parents Allan and Caroline (Ward) Ledford, sister Heidi (Ledford) Hill and stepdaughter Emalia (Brown) Guard. She is survived by her husband Zadoc, three sons, Billy (Lisa), Loch and Hunter (Lisa), stepson Zadoc (Stephanie) seven grandchildren, her three brothers Terry, Loch and Whitt, and several nieces. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday March 2nd, 2019 at the Brown residence Makani'olu, 379 Hoopalua Drive, Makawao at 2:00.
