Margaret A.K. Peters
Margaret A.K. PetersMargaret Agnes Kaluaipihanakalani Peters, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, in Kailua, Oahu. Born on January 29, 1937 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Samuel K. and Agnes (McCabe) Hipa. The third of nine children, Margaret graduated from Sacred Hearts Academy in 1955. She loved to entertain and enjoy a good pa'ina, where she sang and performed lovely hula hands, learned under the tutelage of Aunty Maiki Aiu Lake. She was a powerhouse stroker for Waikiki Surf Club winning 5 Wahine Paddling Crew titles. Margaret worked for Dillingham Corp. and its subsidiary Young Brothers Hawaii for 40 years. She and John G. Peters II wed in 1961 and raised four beautiful children. Margaret was a very active member of the Roman Catholic Church in the State of Hawaii and was a dedicated parishioner at both St. Anthony of Padua, Kailua and St. John Vianney, Kailua, where she enjoyed being a member of the music ministry with each parish for over 55 years and shared her talents as a both a pianist and cantor. Margaret was also an active member of the Kailua Senior Citizen Club. Margaret loved to hele, traveling to Europe when she could, but she preferred her sojourns to Kaulaupapa, Molokai the best, where every year for the past 35 years she and her church group served and celebrated with the community. Like a beautiful gem, many loved Margaret for her special qualities, but few know the totality of each facet that made Margaret uniquely precious. Her grace, musical talents, generous heart, and sense of humor are but a few of them. Her beautiful smile lit up the room. Margaret is survived by her children, Christopher Peters (Jeanine), John G. Peters III (Ala), Regina "Pomai" Ah Yun, & Anthony Peters (Malia), grandchildren Reyn Kaupiko (Tasha), Kainoa (Cayla) & Shawn (Alyssa) Butler, Lauren Hashimoto (Kyle), Melanie Ah Yun (Jeremiah), Alicia "Anuhea" Lorenzo (Brycen), Keoni Peters, Korey Peters, Noah Staggs, Gabriel Peters, Logan Peters, Dylan-John Peters, Madison Ah Yun, Sarah Hart, Keonaona Peters, great- grandchildren Aaliyah Naleieha-Kahawai, Rylee-Lynn Lorenzo, Makaylah Naleieha-Kahawai, Novalee Horie, Rayah-Ann Lorenzo, Jaylee Hashimoto, Haven-Rose Lorenzo, Cruz Kaupiko, Kayleah Naleieha-Kahawai, Ayla Butler, Harlow Grace Kaupiko, baby Kaluaipihanakalani, sisters Bernadette Borges & Veronica Pratt and brother Benjamin K. Hipa. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday March 2, 2019 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church Kailua, visitation 9:00 am, eulogy 10:30 am, Mass at 11:00 am.
