FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Irene “Tootsie” Haynes Sampson
Irene 88, of Aiea, Hawaii, died on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Kaiser Moanalua Hospital. Irene was born to Joseph and Alexandria Soares on February 22, 1930. She retired from Hawaii's biggest locally owned restaurant chain, Spencecliff, after 35 years of service as one of their top waitresses. After retirement Irene enjoyed spending most of her time taking care of her grandchildren whom she adored. She spent her later years at home surrounded by her children and grandchildren until her passing. She is survived by son, Thomas Haynes, daughter, Cynthia (Paul) Sapla, sister, Gladys Medeiros in Oregon; 7 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. A public Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Church in Aiea. Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m. followed by mass at 11:00 a.m. There will be a brief burial service at Punchbowl National Cemetery of the Pacific at 1:00 p.m. Lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m. at Punchbowl Holy Ghost, 1774 Puowaina Drive. It will be time to eat, "talk story" and share our fondest memories of this beautiful woman whom everyone loved.
