FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

EDWARD PRINCETON KALAHIKI, JR.
EDWARD PRINCETON KALAHIKI, JR.April 2, 1947 ~ February 27, 2019 A 1965 graduate of the Kamehameha School for Boys, Ed enjoyed performing with the school's Glee Club and Hawaiian Ensemble. After graduating, his love of song and dance led to a Hawaiian ensemble performance in Japan and a tour in Europe with then popular musical group, Up With People. A 49-year veteran flight attendant with United Airlines, Ed was among the airline's first groups of male flight attendants. He also served as union shop steward, strongly representing the interests of fellow flight attendants. A deep connection with the rich heritage of Hawaii song and dance led Ed to join Halau Hula O Maiki where he became a kumu hula and to further study the genealogy of chants and hula under Kumu Sally Moanikeala Wood Naluai and Kumu Kaui Zuttermeister. Ed taught at Aunty Maiki's halau until her death then founded the Halau Na Punahele O Haluakaiamoana which he lovingly led until his passing. He was blessed with many students, young and old, from Hawaii to Japan and shared his love of hula with many United Airlines co-workers. A generous, loving man and family patriarch, Ed is survived and dearly missed by three brothers, Richard (Linda), Elwood (Manu), and Wendall (Carol); sister, Edwina Mundo; three generations of nephews and nieces and many loving uncles, aunts and cousins. He is also dearly missed by "hanai ohana" Noni (Ray) Causey, whom he met while working on a flight, her son Stuart "Keona" Leong, her daughter-in-law Raquel Leong and her two grandsons. A Celebration of Ed's Life will be held Saturday, March 23rd at Kailua United Methodist Church, 1110 Kailua Rd., Kailua. Visitation: 9:00 a.m.; Service: 10:30 a.m.; lunch to follow.
