FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

ROBERT “BOB” BRIGGS
ROBERT Robert "Bob" Briggs (93) passed away on May 18, 2018. He was born in Thorp, WI, to Raymond and Hannah Briggs,one of 11 children. He grew up in Thorp and Hayward, WI. After graduating high school (as senior class president), Bob enlisted in the Navy. He was accepted to the University of Wisconsin at Madison on the G.I. Bill, and during his junior year he met his soon-to-be-wife Marles. In May of 1951, Bob graduated from UW's School of (Electrical) Engineering. Bob and Marles were married shortly after in St. Paul, MN. Bob was employed by the Dept. of the Navy as an Electronics Engineer at Great Lakes, IL. During the Korean War, Bob was recalled by the Navy with duty in Washington, D.C. After that they then settled in Kenosha, WI where their three children were born. In Nov. of 1960, Bob transferred to the Navy Training Device Center (on Oahu), where the family relocated. Kailua was now their home! Bob retired from the Civil Service in 1974. Bob and Marles stayed very active with Saint Mark Lutheran Church in Kaneohe (members since 1960), where Bob held every Church Council position (at different times) over the years. Bob also became a member of NARFE Kailua Chapter 570, where he held an elected Officer Position in either the local Chapter or State Federation for over 25 years. Additionally, he was involved with the Shaklee Corp., Windward Oahu's Neighborhood Watch Program, several Citizen Activist groups, many charities, and was a league bowler at Pali Lanes. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Marles, and eight of his siblings. He is survived by his children, daughters Robin, Debra (Michael), and his son Curtiss (Vicki) Briggs; grandchildren Melissa (Liam), Jessica (Jimi), Allison, and Raymond (Emily), Robert (Tori) and Russell Briggs; great grandchildren Andrae, Tyler and Trevor; his brother Larry (Dode) Briggs and sister Vieva Henkel; and numerous nieces and nephews. The Briggs family would like to say thank you to Kaiser Permanente, and the wonderful caregivers at Aloha Nursing & Rehab Centre and Islands Hospice, who all helped care for Dad at the end of his blessed life. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Kaneohe, HI, on Sunday, March 24th at 11:30 a.m. Private interment will be held the next day at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl).
