Jane Lee Martin
Former advertising and public relations executive, passed away February 16 at her home on St. Louis Heights. Jane was born September 4, 1934 in Portland, Oregon. In 1966, Jane decided to trade her winter blues for a year in Hawaii. She ended up making a life here. Starting out as a writer and photographer for First National Bank, she worked her way up the ranks of advertising and public relations at Aloha United Fund, Bishop Trust, and Cinerama Hotels. For almost 20 years she managed advertising and PR for Sea Life Park. In March of 1980 while working at The Advertising Works she won the 1979 Advertising Woman of the Year award from the Ad Federation. Two weeks later she quit and started her own agency - Martin & Associates. Her most well-known commercial, for Sea Life Park, featured a conductor leading leaping sea animals in song. Other important clients were Don Ho and The Polynesian Palace, Outrigger Hotels, and the Mike McKenna car dealerships. In 1996 she sold the agency to Ogilvy & Mather and retired to raise African Grey parrots, restore old cars, build stone walls, and assemble the ultimate collection of tools. She climbed up on her roof for the annual avocado harvest until she was 80. Jane was truly multi-talented: writer, photographer, oil painter, jewelry maker, metal sculptor, mechanic and potter. She is survived by her children Vance Martin, Jennifer Cordell, and Daniel Martin - as well as five grandchildren: Kai Cordell, Kaylee Cordell, Abigail Chin-Martin, Lilian Chin-Martin and Wyatt Martin. A memorial will be held at Diamond Head Mortuary on Saturday March 30, at 11am. Arrangements Provided By: DIAMOND HEAD MORTUARY
