George Hiromu Tanabe, 76, passed away on March 7, 2019, surrounded by his 3 children in San Diego. George was born on July 15, 1942 in Honolulu, Hawaii, the first born of Edward Mitsuyuki Tanabe and Kiyomi Kaminaka Tanabe. George was followed by siblings, Melvyn, Larry (deceased), Donna, Joanne (deceased) and Alan. George's 35 year career with the armed forces started in the Air Force. He then shifted his career to the Department of the Navy, for decades at Pearl Harbor and Ford Island, and finishing up in San Diego. George's Federal service as a computer scientist was overlapped by his university teaching career, which he continued into his early 70's. George is survived by his 3 children: Grant, Brian and Kathy. Services will be held on Saturday, April 20th, at Oahu Cemetery (2162 Nuuanu Ave.) at 2pm. Inurnment and Honor Guard services on Monday, April 22nd at Homelani Memorial (Hilo, Hawaii) at 10 am. Arrangements Provided By: Oahu Cemetery Association
