Lavinia C. Wong
Lavinia C. Wong94, Lavinia ("Vin") was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1925 the eldest daughter of Ah Kwo and Sun Lin Wong. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1942, immediately joining wartime work efforts for the U.S. Army operating on the Punahou School campus. In 1946, Lavinia boarded the Lurline with her sister Alana, headed for the mainland where she graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. Lavinia returned to the Coyne Street family home and began her career in radio programming at the old KPOA in Waikiki working with popular radio personalities like Lucky Luck and J. Akuhead Pupule. Subsequently, Lavinia devoted her attention to caring for both of her elderly parents, later volunteering at Shriners Hospital for over 20 years, while training and practicing the art of ikebana during her free time. Lavinia was an intelligent, independent, and lively person whose focus was always the well-being of her large family and many friends. Lavinia leaves behind her brothers, Livingston (Linda) and Alvin (Trudy), 6 nieces, 3 nephews, 6 grand-nieces, and 5 grand- nephews, in addition to many other loving family members and friends near and far.
