FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

PATRICIA LEE TAYLOR
PATRICIA LEE TAYLOR82, passed away on March 30, 2019 at Hale Nani Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Patricia was born in Richmond, IN, the only child to Paul E. and Helen L. (Pittenger) Taylor. After receiving her B.S. in Medical Technology from Indiana University, she worked for a year in Indiana then went to UCLA Medical Center, working 7 years as Blood Bank Technologist, Supervisor and Education Coordinator. She was recruited to come to Hawaii in Jan 1967 to join the teaching faculty in the Medical Technology Division, John A Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawaii at Manoa. While teaching, she also obtained her M.S. in Microbiology (1968-1969). In 1970 she became Chairman and Associate Professor of the Medical Technology Division and headed the Division for 34 years. She concurrently taught Immunohematology, Laboratory Management and other Medical Technology courses for 37 years until she retired in July 2004. Patricia was a long time Member, Elder and Trustee of the First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu, sang in the church choir and a quartet group. She became a Discussion Leader in Bible Study Fellowship, served on various committees in the Regional Presbytery, and went on numerous Medical Missions to rural Thailand helping to teach basic health care and helping to provide medical training and supplies to the Northern tribal villages. Patricia served on the Blood Bank of Hawaii Board of Trustees, on various Committees at the University of Hawaii, and on the Clinical Laboratory Task Force. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, AABB, and ASCLS (for 50 years) and elected to Alpha Mu Tau (Medical Technology Honor Society). A Memorial Service will be held on Friday May 24, 2019. Visitation 09:30 am, Service 10:00 am at First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu at Koolau.
