LOW-YIP “YIPPY” TONG
Passed on May 8, 2019 at 90. Born in 1928 in the fishing village of Tong Ga, in the Pearl River Delta region Guangdong Province of southern China. In 1941 before the entry of the United States into WWII, her father, Tong Chew (deceased), traveled to bring her, her sister, Ah Gun Tong (deceased), and her surviving cousin, Law Yee Tong Fujii, to Honolulu from China at the age of 12 years. Her beloved mother, Tong Chock Shee (deceased) joined the family in Honolulu from China in 1952. Yippy graduated from McKinley High School before attending and completing college in Colorado to become a teacher. She taught social studies at Dole Intermediate School for more than 30 years before retiring. She enjoyed more than more than 30 years of retirement by traveling, going to Vegas to play slot machines, playing mah jong, and golfing with friends and family. She also enjoyed little children. Beloved aunty to the children, Allan, Frank and Suzanne (Young) of her beloved sister, Ahuna Tong Young (deceased), great-aunty to Allan's children: Coreen, Colleen, Michael, Sheila and Daniel (Young), Frank's children: Justin and Gavin (Young), and Suzanne's children, Bryce and Alec (Rammler-Young), great- great-aunty to Taylor, Madison and MacKenzie (Reed), Ella Rose and Michael (Young), Malia, Ryan and Jill (Chaffee), and Kainoa (Young). Friends are welcome to come to Visitation and to offer Remembrances at Borthwick Mortuary Makai Chapel, 1330 Maunakea St. Honolulu at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 29, 2019. Burial will be at 3:00 PM at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery in Kaneohe.
