FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Doris McCoy Tilden
Doris McCoy TildenAfter 101 years, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 1st, 2019. She was born on Nov. 14, 1917 in Philadelphia to Guy and Marian McCoy. She graduated from Cheltenham High and Hood College majoring in Music with minors in Education and English. She married David Amos Tilden, a Bowdoin College engineer, moved with him to Scituate, Massachusetts and taught at Thayer Academy for more than 20 years. She also fostered 36 babies over the next decade. She volunteered at the Scituate Town Library, and the Scituate Historical Society as the Tilden family were Mayflower descendants. Upon moving to Hawaii, she volunteered at the Kawaihao Church bookstore and then at the Honolulu Museum of Art at its Visitor Information Center for another 20 years earning her a Hawaii Volunteer of the Year Award for public service. Doris was a musician, poet and author, publishing books on Hang Gliding in Hawaii and her experience with Open Heart Surgery at the age of 92. She is survived by daughter Susan Tilden Lau (Jeffrey Daniel), sons Christopher D. Tilden and Timothy P. Tilden; grandchildren Chris Tilden, Nicole Tilden Garcia and Daniel Lau; and great- grandchildren Sadie Grace Tilden, Mila and Xavier Garcia. "What you are is God's gift to you. What you make of yourself is your gift to God." Memorial service will be held on Sunday June 2nd, 2019 at 1 PM at Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary. All are welcome.
