Evelyn Jean Gerner, “Lynne”
Evelyn Jean Gerner, EVELYN JEAN GERNER, LYNNE Evelyn (Lynne) Jean Gerner, longtime resident of Honolulu, passed away on April 2, 2019 at the age of 94 1/2, having achieved her goal of having a longer lifespan than her parents, sibling, husband and in-laws. She was born Evelyn Jean Redenbo to Ross and Olive Redenbo on August 2,1924 in Toledo, Ohio. She traveled West with her family, finally settling in Highland, California which she called home. Lynne graduated from the University of California San Francisco in 1948 with a degree in nursing. She went to Honolulu, Hawaii in 1948 with the intention of staying one year. In a very short time she met her future husband, Einar B. Gerner. They were married on June 24, 1949 and spent the next 45 years together raising their family and enjoying life in Hawaii. During that time Lynne was a homemaker, Camp Fire Girl and Cub Scout Leader, golfer, tennis player and snow-skier. After Einar passed away in 1992, Lynne added world traveler to her list of accomplishments. She eventually traveled to all 50 states, all 7 continents and 76 countries. She took tap dancing lessons and appeared in the Mardi Gras Follies as "The Tap Dancing Grandma." But Lynne's greatest passion was her family. She loved her children and regularly traveled to the mainland to spend time with them. She was very happy to have all 4 of them home with her a few weeks before her passing. Lynne is preceded in death by her husband Einar, her mother and father and her brother Ross (Skip) Redenbo. Lynne is survived by her 4 children: Kristi Dallosta (Bill), Jeff Gerner (Margo), Tim Gerner (Suzanne) and Kim Bell; her grandchildren: Jennifer, Steven, Will, Jessica, Justin, Andy; step-grandchildren: Monica, Matthew; 3 great grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held at Central Union Church in the Atherton Chapel on June 15, 2019 at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations may be made in Lynne's memory to the University of Hawaii Athletic Department. Arrangements Provided By: Diamond Head Mortuary
