Rodney H.C.G. Tam, “Rod”
Rodney H.C.G. Tam, RODNEY H.C.G. TAM, ROD 65, of Honolulu, passed peacefully away on May 15, 2019 surrounded by his family at Queens Medical Hospital after complications of Leukemia since January of this year. Rod was born on October 3, 1953 to parents, Robert "Bob" and Patsy (Wong) Tam. He attended Maemae Elementary School and Kawananakoa Middle School before graduating from Roosevelt High School and the University of Hawaii, Manoa. His career began serving for over 30 years as a public servant on the Liliha- Puunui-Nuuanu Neighborhood Board for 2 years, then escalating to Hawaii State House of Representatives for 12 years, Hawaii State Senate for 8 years and the City and County of Honolulu for 8 years. He held many Chairmanship committees including Education/ Higher Education for many years. Rod was also very involved in the Chinese community as a Current President for the Tom Association, Past President for United Chinese Society, Ket On Society, Hawaii Chinese Civic Association, Kwangtung Community Honolulu Lin Yee Hui, Chung Wah Chung Kung Hui and a member of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Chee Kung Tong Society, Honolulu and Chinese Jaycees, See Dai Doo Society and others. He was known as "Mr. Grassroots" and "A People's Advocate". He is survived by wife, Lynnette; son, Gregg; daughter, Laurie; father, Robert "Bob" Tam; brother, Stanley (Tiffany); sister, Noreen (Dennis) Clement; nephews and nieces. Predeceased by Mother, Patsy Tam. Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Hosoi Garden Mortuary, Inc., visitation at 3:30 p.m, services at 4:30 p.m. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary
