WANDA RITA AU MIURA
WANDA RITA AU MIURA Affectionately known by her family and friends as "WAM," she passed away peacefully on April 18, 2019 at her home at the age of 86. The youngest of six children born to William Sing Au and Margaret Wedemeyer Au, she was a "Kalihi" girl, attended St. Anthony's Catholic School thru the eighth grade, then Punahou School where she was an alumna of the class of 1951. She continued her education at Colorado Women's College in Denver with a major in Business. After graduating, she returned home to complete her Hawaii Teaching Certificate. She first taught at Sacred Hearts Academy, then gave 30 years to the DOE, first at August Ahrens Elementary School in Waipahu, and then Kalihi Kai Elementary. During her teaching career, she enjoyed participating in archeological fieldtrips to the South Pacific. WAM was intelligent, energetic, outgoing, athletic, and friendly. She loved the game of golf for all of these reasons and enjoyed many Sundays with the golfing groups, "The Bay View Dames," and "The Hawaiian Girls." Wanda was married to Bernard "Barney" Toshiyuki Miura. He and four of her siblings pre-deceased her. She is survived by her two daughters, Bonnie Miura (Pete) Hamilton and Heather Miura (Richard); four grandchildren: Taylor Hamilton, Scott Hamilton, Harrison Brookes, and Margaret Brookes; sister, Iris (Kamaile) Yen; sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Service to be held at O'ahu Cemetery Chapel in Nu'uanu, on Thursday, July 11, 2019. Visitation: 5:00 p.m.; Service: 6:00 p.m. Meal and refreshments to follow. Aloha attire.
