Passed away on June 25, 2019. He was born at a plantation camp in Paia, Maui on April 17, 1932. He spent 49 years as an educator and guidance counselor at Kauai High School, McKinley High School and Leeward Community College. He was a community advocate promoting traditional native culture of kapa, lauhala and lei making. He served in the U.S. Army. He is survived by wife Vivian "Happy" Tamanaha, sons Brian Tamanaha and Dale Eng, daughters Lani Tamanaha Broadbent, Mari Tamanaha, grandchildren Brandy Tamanaha Carlo, Jasmine Wazaney, Jolijt Tamanaha, Kats Tamanaha, Sava Tamanaha, and Vincent Michalski, and great-grandchild Kennedy Wazaney. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 2, at the Hanapepe Kaua'i Veterans Cemetery at 10:30am, with burial to follow. Family suggests Aloha attire. No flowers, please. Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangement.
