Robert Stanley Thorn, age 54, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2019 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was born in Saigon, Vietnam. He served honorably for nine years with the U.S. Navy and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. From 1986-1991, he was a Boiler Technician on the USS Badger (FF-1071), and received a Humanitarian Service Medal for his actions as part of the Badger crew and as the designated Vietnamese interpreter for the ship's captain during the Badger's rescue of 57 Vietnamese refugees at sea near the Spratly Islands, South China Sea, in 1988. Bob is survived by and the beloved son of Kim Anh Thorn, brother of Thomas (Lynn) Thorn, Terri (Jeff) Kucera, Lee Ann Thorn, Susan Thorn, uncle of 4 nephews and 3 nieces, boyfriend of Pi'ilani Tilton, and daddy of Baggy the cat. Family will be remembering Bob on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 with Committal Services & Military Honors at 11:00 a.m. at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery located in Kaneohe. Following Committal Services, a Celebration of Life will be held at Calvary Chapel found at 47-525 Kamehameha Highway, Kaneohe from 12:00-5:00 p.m. and the Scattering of Ashes will be done at Kalama Beach Park in Kailua at 6:00 p.m. Arrangements Provided By: Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary
