JOHN P. SOSA John P. Sosa, 76, was born in San Miguel, California and he passed away on June 13, 2019 in Honolulu. His mission to educate children began in Hilo, Hawaii in 1969 as a Special Education teacher. He held many roles in the Hawaii Department of Education including vice principal, principal, district superintendent and mentor to school leaders. He also served as superintendent of Lopez Island School District in the San Juan Islands of Washington State. He returned to Hawaii and eventually retired as a high school principal. His loves included preparing children for bright futures, animals, traveling, and fishing. John was an excellent fisherman and fishing brought him great joy. He loved connecting with people throughout the world and he engendered a spirit of optimism for the future that touched all who knew him. He leaves a legacy of leadership that is carried on through the many who learned from his wisdom and example. He is survived by his two sons Matthew and Michael, and their families as well as his two sisters Geraldine and Rachel; sister-in-law Victoria, and their families.
