FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Clarence Mike Ashman and Doris Marjorie Ashman
Clarence Mike Ashman  and  Doris Marjorie AshmanDORIS MARJORIE ASHMAN Clarence Mike Ashman, (d. 11/5/2018) and his wife Doris Marjorie, (d. 1/18/2016) will be interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2019. Interment will take place at the new columbarium, C - 13, near the cemetery entrance. Following the interment, there will be a memorial at a private residence. Mike and Doris are survived by their daughter Lynne Hartz and sons Michael (Naomi) and Bill Ashman; 7 grandchildren and 7 great granddaughters. In WWII, Mike joined the Navy as a radioman and served in the merchant marine as First Mate. He married Doris, his high school sweetheart, in 1944. Mike worked for KJBS in San Francisco, KTOH in Lihue, and KGMB in Honolulu. He also worked for Dole Pineapple at the Iwilei cannery, then to Lana'i and later at Whitmore. In 1963, he went to Mindanao to start the Dole Philippines plantation. Doris worked as a librarian, substitute teacher and secretary. In 1968, Doris and Mike moved to Saipan where he worked for the Trust Territory as Public Information and Tourism Officer and she worked as a secretary to the Public Education Officer. In 1978, they moved to San Francisco where he worked for the Pacific Area Travel Association and she for MacUser magazine. They both retired and lived in Honolulu and Princeville, Kaua'i. In 2003, they moved to a retirement community in Kennewick, Washington, near their daughter. Even though they took many trips back to Hawaii, they enjoyed their last years in Kennewick, near many of their 7 grandchildren and all 7 of their great-granddaughters.
