1951-2019 Tom Lanthier-Welch, 68, passed away at home in Honolulu HI on July 13, 2019 surrounded by loved ones after a long, brave battle with cancer. Born March 28, 1951 in NYC to Richard and Jeanne Welch, Tom moved to Hawaii at the age of two. A graduate of University Laboratory School, class of 1969, followed by two years at UH Tom found satisfying work in the construction industry. Tom met and fell in love with San Francisco native Jenny Lanthier in 1971. They were married in 1976 on Hawaii Island, taking each other's names. With their two sons they remained a loving and close family throughout Tom's lifetime. In 1995 Tom founded Pacific Recreation Co and spent his career building playgrounds and tennis/basketball courts statewide for people to enjoy. He sold his company and retired in 2008. An avid surfer, Tom found his zen place while surfing his special spot in east Honolulu. A loving husband, father and grandfather Tom showed his love for his family every day. He was a talented artist, builder, guitar player and an amazing gardener. Tom is survived by his beloved wife Jenny; sons Joshua Lanthier-Welch and his wife Katherine (Medford OR); and Joseph L. Welch and his wife Jessica (Honolulu) and his two very special granddaughters Zoe Welch and Lucia Welch. Also survived by; brother Clay Welch (San Diego) and sister Jan Welch (Honolulu).
