FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

John Bennet Rogers
John, 61, passed away at his home in Kailua early on the morning of July 30th, 2019. He was affectionately cared for by his loving wife, Shizuko Rogers, during his bout with cancer. He and Shizuko were married at Turtle Bay on Feb 22, 1996 on a beautiful spring day and have been inseparable ever since. John was born in Washington DC, the son of Elizabeth Thomas Rogers and Charles Osborn Rogers. Charlie was an officer in the Marine Corps living in Quantico, Va. at the time. John spent his first two years growing up in Kodiak, Alaska before moving with the family to Kailua in August of 1960. John loved Hawaii, especially surfing with his friends on both Oahu and on the Big Island where he and Shuzuko had a second home. John created and ran a successful business called Affordable Portable Housing where he converted old shipping containers into durable, low income housing on the Big Island. His best seller was a model called "The Lava Runner" which could be towed away in a day, if needed. One of his big passions in life was in trying to find a solution to the homeless problem by designing "tiny houses" for them. His life's work continues on through the new ownership of Affordable Portable Housing. John is survived by his wife, Shizuko, his brother Frank, his niece Layla Rogers Powell, and his nephews Steve, Mark and Jeff Rogers. His older brother, Chuck Rogers passed away in 2001. Private services will be held by the family. Arrangements Provided By: Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
