William H. “Bill” Campbell
Bill Campbell passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Windward Oahu after a brief illness. He is survived by Iz, his wife of 55 years, sons Dan (Kerri) and David (Michelle) and grandchildren Taylor, Alexis and Quinn. Bill's family was his joy; he loved being a Dad and Grampa. Born in San Francisco in 1940, Bill lived in San Diego in his teen years. He graduated from Stanford University with a BA degree before serving as an officer in the U.S. Army. Returning to Stanford, he earned an MBA degree in 1969, and immediately joined Alexander & Baldwin's San Francisco office. Thus began his 31-year career at A&B. Transferred to Honolulu in 1970, he worked in the field of planning and property development, eventually becoming Senior Vice President of A&B Properties Inc. and Executive Vice President & General Manager of Kukui'ula Development Company on Kauai. After retiring in 2000, Bill and Iz moved to Sonoma County in northern California. There Bill continued to be a voracious reader and library patron. He was a lifelong sports fan, played a mean game of cribbage, and always had a project going. Building things, and creating and maintaining landscapes kept him busy, as did growing grapes and making wine. Bill also spent major amounts of time studying maps and planning trips. His travels spanned the United States (every state) and the globe. He especially enjoyed travel by ship, and completed a lifetime goal of circumnavigating the globe by sea on a 31 day cruise from Singapore to Rome in April of this year. Bill returned to Hawaii in October 2018, where he enjoyed living in Kaka'ako near son David's Aloha Beer Co brewery, and spending weekends with family in Waimanalo. The family would appreciate remembrances of Bill on the Nuuanu Mortuary website nmplimited.com. No services are being planned. Arrangements Provided By: Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary LLC
