90, of Pacific Heights, Honolulu, passed away on April 6, 2019. She was born on October 12, 1928 in Porterville, California. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in Library Science. She went on to further her education at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and earned a Ph.D. in American Studies. She retired as a professor from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1995. In her retirement, Michaelyn continued her passion of reading and writing and was a published author. She regularly attended Sunday church services and was an accomplished singer. Her love of traveling took her to China, Australia, and Europe to name a few and often drove cross country through the United States before the invention of the GPS. Michaelyn is survived by son Avery Tsui (Joy) and daughter Haven Watanabe (Todd); grand- children Anthony Tsui (Yumi), Johnathan Tsui, Tiffany Tsui, and Taylor Watanabe; and nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 23, 2019 at Borthwick Mortuary, Mauka Chapel; Visitation at 5:00pm; Service at 6:00pm.
