FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Richard Noboru Uchida
89, of Pearl City, passed away on July 20, 2019. Born and raised in Nuuanu, he graduated from McKinley High School (Class of '47) and earned a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries degree from the University of Washington in 1951. After serving in the Army during the Korean conflict, Richard began his lifelong federal career in fisheries research at what would later become the Pacific Island Regional Office of the National Marine Fisheries Service under the U.S. Department of Commerce. During his tenure, he published scientific reports involving a wide range of topics such as studies of marine species, fish migration, and the distribution and abundance of tuna in the Pacific. His hobbies included woodworking, brush painting, Chinese cooking, and watching his beloved Washington Huskies on the Pac-12 network. Preceded in death by his wife Marilyn (Inatsuka) Uchida, he is survived by his son Dean (Joy) Uchida; daughters JoAnn (Gary) Takeuchi and Gail (Mark) Nakao; grand- children Elle and Troy Uchida and Kai Takeuchi; and sister Grace Tamaye. Visitation from 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 30, 2019, at Hosoi Garden Mortuary; service at 6:00 p.m. No flowers. Casual attire. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary
