Ronald P. Oster
Ronald P. Oster, 72, of Honolulu, Oahu, died on April 24, 2019 at his home. Born on November 28, 1946 to Jack and Charlotte "Lottie" Oster in Illinois. Ron was a restaurateur and island hopper. He opened his first two restaurants in the Virgin Islands. He moved to Honolulu to open Pono Foods in the 1980s where he devoted many years providing vegetarian menu items for restaurants and food chains across the country. He was most known for his oatcakes and ginger beverage. After retirement, he spent his time volunteering as a mediator for the Mediation Center of the Pacific, helping fellow islanders resolve disputes. He enjoyed all that island life had to offer but especially hiking, biking, basketball, swimming in the ocean, and volunteering at the Humane Society. He proclaimed that his life was filled with joy, peace, laughter, and kindness. Ron is preceded in death by his brother Jerry Oster and is survived by his nieces Rebecca Ciecka, Jocelyn Oster, nephew Jeffery Oster, and sister-in-law Linda Oster.
