RYAN FERNANDEZOur "Baba" Ryan Ka'ipo o kalani AhLeen Fernandez, 39, of Hilo, was called into the loving arms of his Saviour Jesus Christ on January 10, 2019. He is the son of Gabriel "Gabby" and Rozalyn (Teixeira) Kalawai'a and Paul Fernandez; brother to Ryanna Fernandez, Ramona Fernandez, Leandra (Miguel) Rodriguez, Lachelle (HB) Crabbe, and Brooke Ka'aekuahiwi; grandson of Ernie Sr. & Belle Teixeira and Clarence (d) & Catherine Crabbe. Ryan has five nieces, one nephew, and many babies who call him Uncle. He is the godson of Leonard and Ronie Low. His hanai brothers include Aaron Mahaulu, Kenneth Tagavilla and Franklin Cortez. Ryan has many aunties, uncles and cousins whom he loved and adored. Ryan was born on O'ahu and raised in Wai'anae and Hilo. He graduated in the year 2000 from Hilo High School to the standing applause of his fellow classmates. Ryan is known for his big heart, aloha for others, and witty sense of humor. He is remembered for his respect, kindness and compassion, especially to those needing a helping hand. His love for life included hunting, canoe paddling, diving and fishing. He began hunting at age seven for goats up Makaha Valley and for boar on the slopes of Mauna A Wakea. Ryan was a member of Na Keiki o Ka Mo'i Canoe Club, an awesome stroker and 'Ekahi medalist. He learned to fish at a very young age and became a skilled diver. Ka 'Aha Ho'ohanohano Aloha No Ryan Ka'ipo o kalani Ahleen Fernandez will start at 8:30 am on Saturday, August 24th at Our Lady of Kea'au, 83-300 Farrington Highway (past Makaha Surfing Beach). Please join us in wearing green or blue to honor Ryan's aloha for mauka and makai. We invite you to bring your SUP or OC1 to join us at the water ceremony to follow at Poka'i Bay. Ryan loved and forever will be loved and cherished by his 'ohana nui and friends.
