FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

WILLIAM YUEN COOK CHANG
WILLIAM YUEN COOK CHANG102, of Kailua, died in Kailua on Saturday, July 27, 2019. He was born on April 1, 1917 in Waimea, Kauai. He was the 8th of 10 children born to Kan Chang (father) and Sun Yao (mother). By 1924, the family settled in Palolo Valley, Oahu. William attended Liliuokalani School until the 8th grade when he began working to help the family. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, William worked for the U.S. Maintenance and Fortification department building projects and fortifications. The most notable project being the Kokohead Trail and Cable Car Rail. He continued in carpentry trade for over 50 years, owning and operating "Bill Chang's Furniture Repair" in Kailua, Oahu. William's first wife Elizabeth Kum Yuk Pang Nagatani passed in 1955, leaving behind her children Nyra Williams and Stan Nagatani. William remarried Iris Faith Chang in 1958, mother to Michael and Charlene Chang. Iris, Nyra and Charlene predeceased William. William left behind twelve grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren. Visitation: 9:00AM; Services: 10:00AM on Friday, August 30, 2019 at Borthwick Mortuary Mauka Chapel, 1330 Maunakea Street, Honolulu, HI 96817. Burial: 1:00PM at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery.
