Harold “Haru” Teruto Matsuura
Harold passed away on 8-7-19. He was born on 3-14-35 in Waialua, Oahu, to Mataichi and Sekiyo Matsuura. He was the youngest of 10 children. His brothers, Kyoichi, Nobuo "Larry" and Michito "Richard," and his sisters, Tsurue, Sugiko "Ruth," Umeyo "Betty," Sumiko "Sue" and Kazuko "Alice," preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister, Masue "Marjie;" his wife, Patsy; his children, Jodi Matsuura Eaves (Greg) and Marc Matsuura (Melissa); and by five grandchildren, Kainoa (Yulia), Kekoa, Logan, Aidan and Ashley (Lucien), and 3 great-grandchildren, Aiyana, Liana and Makana. Harold attended Haleiwa Elementary School, St. Louis High School, Gustavus Adolphus College, the University of Minnesota, where he earned a bachelors degree in microbiology, and the University of Hawaii, acquiring a Masters in Public Health. He was drafted into the Army in 1958 until 1960. During that time he was stationed at Schofield laboratory. He worked for the Department of Health for 37 years on the Islands of Oahu, Kauai and Hawaii. His last position with the Department was Chief of Environmental Health for the Island of Hawaii. He took great pride in developing and implementing a statewide food safety program for foodhandlers. He loved playing baseball as he grew up and participated in a makule league in Hilo. He made many friends along the way whom he cherished over the years. Inurnment will be at Punchbowl. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary
