Age 90, of Honolulu, passed away on July 10, surrounded by family at Queen's Medical Center. Born on July 17, 1928 in Pu'ukoli'i, Maui, Evelyn was the 8th of 11 siblings. She graduated from Lahainaluna High School, Class of 1946. After retiring from Lanakila Health Center, Evelyn worked as a greeter at the Honolulu International Airport where she refined her Japanese language skills and enjoyed visitors and kama'aina. Evelyn lived life to the fullest, trying new activities, going to special events, and sharing her kind and generous spirit with people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. She excelled in handicrafts and knitted colorful afghans that she presented as gifts of her aloha. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ted Araki and grandson, Marcus Araki. She is survived by daughters Lynnette (Thomas Hall), Stephanie, Francine; granddaughter Danyelle Sutherland (Joel Thomas); great-grandchildren, Jewel, Ethan, Theodore, Winston, and Emily. She is also survived by siblings Ginyei Matsudo, Jinchi (Charleen) Matsudo, Margaret Zaan, sister-in-law Midori Matsudo, brother-in-law Frank Velligas; many nieces and nephews. We will celebrate Evelyn's life on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Hosoi Garden Mortuary, visitation at 10am, service at 11am. Casual attire. The family requests no flowers and no gifts.
