FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Helen Duhaylongsod Barcelona
Helen Duhaylongsod Barcelona92, of Pearl City, passed away on August 27, 2019. Helen was born and raised in Waipahu, Hawaii. She was employed as Comptroller for the US Navy at Barbers Point for over 30 years and served as Choir Director at the Waipahu United Church of Christ for 55 years. The Senate and House of Representatives recognized Helen in April 2002 for her actions, achievements and dedication in the community and being a positive role model. The following month, the Waipahu Business Association presented Helen with the Pride in Waipahu Award for making a difference in the lives of the people who live and work in Waipahu. Helen was genuinely supportive of her children and grandchildren's interest in music and sports and was an avid UH sports fan. Helen's signature dessert was a tasty and eye pleasing pineapple upside down cake which she made for church bake sales, celebrations and as a gesture of appreciation to others. It gave Helen great joy to reach out to her church congregation and the community through the ministry of music. Her mantra was, "All my talents come from God and by volunteering my services, it is my gift to God." Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Jose "Sonny" Barcelona of 60 years. She is survived by her daughters, Marcella (Alan) Tamashiro and Melissa Fraser, grandchildren, Ryan (Melissa) Tamashiro, Kristen (Bobby) Smallman, Justin (Jessica) Fraser, Tiffany Fraser and great-grandchildren, Calvin Fraser, Audrey Smallman and Cali Tamashiro.
