LORNA D.B. KAKESAKO
LORNA D.B. KAKESAKOLorna Duk Bong Kakesako passed away peacefully on August 22, 2019. She was born to Henry Jong Gwan Chun and Harriett Len Chau Hew in Honolulu. She graduated from Waipahu High School and earned her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education degrees from the University of Hawaii. She married Michael Masayuki Kakesako in May 1952, and together they spent many wonderful years traveling and lived in several different states. In her lifetime, Lorna was a teacher, one of the early organizers of the Hawaii State Teachers Association and was very active in the Democratic Party. She worked for Hawaiian Telephone, the City & County of Honolulu, co-owned a small hotel store, and was a part-owner in a travel agency. After retirement she volunteered with the DAVA, the Democratic Party and Lake County California Public Health Department. Lorna enjoyed reading, gardening, going to the casino and spending time with family. Lorna is preceded in death by her husband, Michael and sister, Lucille Park. She is survived by her brother Phile Chun and sister Diana Matsumura, her children, Terry Barber, Laura Tindall, Randall Kakesako and Sandra Shiraki, 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Lorna and Michael will be laid to rest in a private committal service at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl.
