FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Itsuko Takamura
Itsuko Takamura104, died peacefully on September 1, 2019 at the Malama Nui Care Home in Kaneohe. She was born in Kona, Hawaii on June 2, 1915 to coffee farmers, Sotaro and Iyo Komo. She attended sewing school in Hilo after which she moved to Honolulu where she worked in the household for the Soga family, the publisher of the newspaper, Nippu Jiji (Hawaii Times). She married Edward Takamura and raised two children. She spent many years babysitting for her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. They remember her taking them on many fun "bus riding" adventures. After her babysitting days were over, she continued her love of bus riding with her friends going to Chinatown and all over the island. She loved her plants and orchids and was able to grow anything from small slips of plants she collected on her walks. She enjoyed cooking and her family enjoyed her Japanese dishes. She attended classes at Mo'ili'ili Community Center and participated actively at the Mo'ili'ili Hongwanji Mission temple until a few months before her passing. She enjoyed traveling the world, especially with her temple friends and family. On September 15, 2015, the Japanese Consulate, on behalf of Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, presented her with a certificate and silver sake cup to commemorate her 100th birthday. On February 17, 2019, she was recognized as Mo'ili'ili Hongwanji Mission "Living Legend" for her outstanding dedication and service to the temple. She is survived by her son, Carl (Jeanette); daughter, Ruby Saito; grandchildren, Kelli (Mark) Goodin, Mari Takamura; great-grand- children, Jeri and T.J. Goodin; brothers, Richard and David Komo; sisters, Fumiko Yoshikawa and Emiko (Yoshiyuki) Kaneko. She is pre-deceased by her husband, "Eddie;" brothers, Herbert, James and Mitsugi Komo and sister, Michie Kamitaki. Itsuko's life will be celebrated on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Visitation at 4, service at 5. No flowers. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary
