"My Mission is Complete" Joe was born on April 18th 1924 in Huelo, Maui. At a young age, he enlisted in the military and was a member of the highly decorated 442nd regimental combat team, 522nd field artillery battalion. He served during the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. After 38 years of dedicated service, Joe retired. He and his wife Peggy traveled to many places including a visit to Bruyeres, France. In 2011 they moved to 15 Craigside, and in 2014 Peggy passed away. In 2016, he was presented with the French Legion of Honor Medal. On August 16th, Joe passed away peacefully at 15 Craigside; days after birth of great grandson, Cade Riku Hamada, Joe is survived by his sons, Joel (Judy) of Sacramento, CA and Lester (Fran), grandchildren, Melissa (Davin Hamada), Lauren, Caroline, Daniel & Cade, sisters Tamiko Tucker of Wailuku, Maui, Nobuko Kuhn of Boston MA, & Joe Kawashita of Mission Viejo, CA. Memorial service shall be private. He will be honored with military ceremony and inurned at Punchbowl on September 23, 2019.
