(May 31, 1941 - September 1, 2019) was born in Philadelphia and started drumming at age 5. He toured with Bill Haley and the Comets as a young man and joined the 730th Air Force Band after attending Berklee School of Music and Julliard. He toured internationally with such diverse artists as Gary US Bonds, Don Cherry, John Tchicai and Sabu Martinez, with whom he recorded. Author of 3 volumes of Earth Rhythms Catalogues (Melbay), he was also endorsed by Zildjian cymbals. He played with many of Hawaii's Jazz talents most notably Betty Lou Taylor. Ivan was also an artist and spent his last 12 years painting. He made these islands his home for over 40 years. There will be a pot luck drum circle celebration at Chinaman's Hat park from 3-6 PM on Sunday, October 20, 2019 to scatter his ashes and celebrate his life. Arrangements Provided By: Oahu Mortuary
