FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Maggie Keola Hanohano
Maggie Keola Hanohano73, of Kaneohe, went to join the Lord on October 14, 2019, at the Kailua Hospice Home, surrounded by family and friends. Maggie was born in Honolulu, on July 1, 1946, and graduated from the Kamehameha Schools in 1964. After earning Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees from Utah State University, Maggie returned home to work in the Hawai'i Department of Education as a pre-K-12 special education teacher and district and state office Resource Teacher. She experienced a renewal of her cultural identity as a part of Hui 'Imi Na'auao o Hawai'i and believed that Hawaiian culture was vitally important to our keiki. She was a State Resource Teacher for Pihana Na Mamo: Native Hawaiian Special Education Project, with the mission to deliver educational services to children and youth of Hawaiian ancestry with special needs. She was awarded the Educator of the Year Award from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, was a national winner of the Association for Direct Instruction and was appointed Council Member - Consumer for the Native Hawaiian Education Council. Maggie was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, the Kamehameha Schools alumni association and enjoyed taking care of her animals and garden, walking and volunteering at the local farmer's market. She is preceded in death by her father William Hanohano, her mother Helen Hulama Hanohano, and her brother William Hanohano Jr. She is survived by her nieces and nephew: Helen (David) McNeil, Michele (Raymond) Carulli and Harry Hanohano. She loved her grand nieces and nephews: India and Skye McNeil; Michaela, Rhys and Devyn Kalama; Chase Carulli and Ian Hanohano. Visitation will be held at Valley of the Temples, Trousdale Chapel on Saturday, October 19, 2019 starting at 10:45am. Burial to follow at 12:00pm. Luncheon and memorial celebration offsite at 1:00pm.
