On Monday, October 21, 2019, Richard Horace Gates loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great- great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 90. He was born on February 4, 1929 in Ontario Canada to Richard and Laura Gates. Richard lived a full life of service to his country and community, a decorated combat Veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars, he also worked as a Liquor Inspector with the City and County of Honolulu and was an entrepreneur of various ventures. He is survived by his wife Arleen Gates, and children LaVerne Merrill (Sidney), Linda Gates, Diane Gates-Hawkins (Kendall Bruce), Darlene Gates, Robert Gates, Karen Gates (Dwight Kanae), Babette Gates (Pamela Cross), Ronette Lei Barrett (Guy) and Dorsey Gates. He had 19 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 2 great- great-grandchildren He is also survived by sisters Marjorie Scuggs, and Barbara Feola. Celebration of Life will be held at Hawaiian Memorial Park 46-425 Kamehameha Hwy., Kaneohe, on October 30, 2019 from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm. (Aloha attire).
