The Clapes family announces with regret the passing of their dear husband, father, grandfather and brother, Anthony Lawrence Clapes, at the age of 76, on Saturday October 19th, 2019, in Honolulu, Hawaii after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Tony grew up in Stamford, CT, and was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Yale University Law School. His international career as an intellectual property lawyer for IBM led him around the globe and fostered his love of meeting people of all walks of life, all backgrounds, and all nationalities. He shared this love with his family as they joined him on his broad travels. Tony was a pioneer in the field of computer software law. He authored many scholarly works in the field and his book, Softwars, became a textbook for software law courses. He first came to his beloved Hawaiian islands in the early 70's and returned often until his retirement there in 1998. His publication, Blue Wave Millennium, and his graphic novel, Tropica, sought to inspire the diversification of Hawaii's economic future. An avid photographer, Tony chronicled his life in pictures. He was a man of character, innovation, creativity, humor, wit, and kindness. Tony was the devoted head of his family and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife, Jill, his daughters, Lisa and Stephanie, his granddaughter, Geneva, and his siblings, William, Rosemary and Louise.
