FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Lloyd King
82, passed away in Honolulu on October 17, 2019. Born in Glendale, California, he graduated from UCLA and received his LLB from UC Berkeley. He began the practice of law, specializing in bankruptcy, and was appointed United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of California in December, 1975. He served as Chief Judge from 1986 until 1992, when he was appointed Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Hawaii. In 2002, he began working on recalled status in Hawaii and the districts of Delaware and Nevada. He retired in 2016 after 41 years on the federal court bench. As a member of the education committees of the Ninth Circuit and Federal Judicial Center, and the Bankruptcy Judges Advisory Group, Judge King was active in working with the Administrative Office of the United States Courts and the Federal Judicial Center to develop a national continuing education program for newly appointed bankruptcy judges. He was a member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States and a fellow in the American College of Bankruptcy. He enjoyed hiking, biking and kayaking in his prime, and was a voracious reader and avid crossword and sudoku puzzler. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Mollie, and managed to complete visits to all destinations on his bucket list. He was steadfast in his love for his blended family of children, Leslie, Dennis (Robert), Alison (Douglas), Dean (Kelly), and 5 grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings Lynne, Gary, Ginger and Michael. Visitation on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. at Hosoi Garden Mortuary.
