FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

VIVIAN “HAPPY” TAMANAHA
Passed away peacefully on November 17, 2019. Happy was born on March 28, 1935 in Hilo, Hawaii, then moved at an early age to Wailua Homesteads, Kaua'i. She spent 25 years as an educator at Central Middle School for the State of Hawaii DOE. After retirement her artistic vision and talented hands were expressed in her passion for lei making, Kapa making, Lauhala weaving and cooking multiple flavors of jams, curds, and mango chutney. She loved sharing her creative knowledge and she was a community advocate promoting traditional native culture of kapa, lauhala, and lei making. She focused on teaching young people these important traditions. She is preceded in death by her husband Katsugi ''Kats'' Tamanaha. She is survived by son Brian Tamanaha, daughters Lani Tamanaha Broadbent, Mari Tamanaha, grand- children Brandy Tamanaha Carlo, Jasmine Wazaney, Jolijt Tamanaha, Kats Tamanaha, Sava Tamanaha, and Vincent Michalski, and great- grandchild Kennedy Wazaney. A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 22, at the Hanapepe Kaua'i Veterans Cemetery at 10:00 am, with burial to follow. Family suggests Casual or Aloha attire. No flowers, please. Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangement.
