12/19/54 - 9/14/19 Deborah (Debbie) Ann Ching was the eldest daughter of Dr. Ellsworth (deceased) and Barbara Tam Ching. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, she was well loved by a large circle of friends and family. At birth she was diagnosed with Down Syndrome, a life usually full of challenges. For Debbie, however, it would mean a joyful experience. She celebrated her first birthday with a huge luau complete with a hula troupe, imu smoked pig and Hawaiian music in the now historic Fort Armstrong. Debbie and her family would live in Los Angeles and Alameda, California, Boston, Massachusetts, and Norfolk, Virginia, where her father suddenly passed away, after which her family moved back to Hawaii in 1971. She and her mother would later move in initially with her sister Donna and husband Mark in New Jersey in 1989, then with her sister Diane and husband Andrew in 1995 in California, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts before moving back to Hawaii in 2010. In her life, her mother would continuously be at Debbie's side as they shared many adventures including walking the length of the Golden Gate Bridge, cruising the Caribbean, traveling to London, Hong Kong and touring the Great Wall of China. For the past four years, Debbie resided at the Wilson Senior Living care home in Kailua, Hawaii, where she received daily visits from her mother and caregiver, Darlene Medeiros. She passed away on Sept 14, 2019 surrounded by her devoted family and friends. She will be remembered for her happy personality, her love for the beach and somersaults in the waves, riding "shotgun" in the car, and her mischievous grin while tickling you to win a game of arm wrestling. Debbie is survived by her mother Barbara, two sisters Donna (Mark) and Diane (Andrew), brother Jonathan, four nieces Amanda, Victoria, Caroline, Alyssa, and nephew Robert. Her family plans a Celebration of Life service on Dec.19, 2019, which would have been Debbie's 65th birthday, at 10 a.m. at Borthwick Mortuary, Mauka Chapel.
