James Hoy Sau Lee
James "Asau" Hoy Sau Lee of Kaneohe passed away on November 25, 2019. Born in Kalauao, Jimmy grew up on the family farm and at the young age of 11, he witnessed the tragic event on the morning of December 7, 1941, while tending to his chore of feeding the pigs. Jimmy went on to attend Iolani High School and the University of Hawaii until he was drafted into the US Army in 1953. He eventually retired as a Sergeant Major from the US Army Reserves. He was employed by the US Army Corps of Engineers, Emergency Management Division, and retired in 1998 after 42 years of Federal service. Jimmy's passion for life was filled with rich experiences as an adventurous world traveler, dedicated Arizona Memorial volunteer, and active community service participant. All of this fueled his rich and inspiring stories as he found much joy, happiness and reward in sharing with others. A loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa, Jimmy is survived by wife Sandra; sons Wayne, Geoff (Gwen), and Barrett; daughters Mariellen (Andrew) Jones, Terri-Ann Hironaka, and Paulette (Alan) Suwa; daughter-in-law, Melene Lee; 18 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Also survived by brothers Alfred and Richard, and sister Margaret Hee. Jimmy's parting message as interviewed by grandson, Austin Jones: "We live today because we want to enjoy the happiness, we want to enjoy life, and enjoy what we have." Services will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Oahu Mortuary Chapel; Visitation from 8:30am-10:00am; Service at 10:00am; Burial at 1:00pm at the National Memorial Center of the Pacific.
