FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

COLONEL DEAN T. SCHAMBER, USA (RET.)
Col. Dean T. Schamber, age 87, passed away on December 6, 2019 in Kailua, Hawaii. He was born in St. Paul, MN to Col. Dean Schamber and Mary Murphy Schamber. Dean graduated from high school in Heidelberg Germany in 1949. He served 3 years with the US Army of Occupation before entering the University of Minnesota in 1952. He graduated from the U of M Medical School in 1959. He served in the US Army Medical Corp for 28 years with tours of duty in the US and abroad. His final tour of duty was as Chief of Urology at Tripler Army Medical Center. In 1977 he joined the faculty of the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii as a professor of surgery, retiring in 1998. He also practiced at Straub Clinic in Honolulu for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, David Schamber of Kailua-Kona, and Donald Schamber of Monterrey, CA. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sharon Jean Schamber, and his children James D. Schamber of Kailua, Stephanie Hika and LeeAnn Stephan of Kailua, and John Schamber and Wayne Yoshigai of Honolulu, and by seven granddaughters, Karlee Rogers, Kristine, Kimberlee, and Kassidy Schamber, Monica and Grace Hika, Christine Kintz, 4 great- grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. A memorial Eucharist is scheduled for Monday, December 16th, at 10:00 am at St. Mark's Episcopal Church on Kapahulu Avenue in Honolulu. Interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the University of Hawaii Foundation, earmarked for JABSCOM, or to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, for music.
